Born in Palghat district, Kerala, Achuthan Kudallur is one of India’s foremost abstract painters. He lives and works in Chennai. Achuthan’s works are known for their mature abstract compositions, the schematic presentation of an idea, without representing any recognizable animate object, but imbued with unbounded energy in free flowing forms and colors. He has won the National Academy Award, the Tamil Nadu Lalit Kala Academy Award and was Commissioner for the 10th Indian International Triennial, New Delhi. He has had twenty one Solo Exhibitions in major galleries in India and several Group Exhibitions in Prague, Besancon, France, Noble Sage gallery, London, Maya Gallery, Hong Kong, USA, Dubai, Singapore and Romania. His works have been part of Sotheby’s Indian Sale, Christie’s, and the 3rd Asian Art Show, Fukuoka, Japan. On invitation, Achuthan has attended several Art Camps in England, Russia, Istanbul, Mauritius, Myanmar, China, Dhaka, Africa, Nepal, New Zealand, England & Switzerland. His works have been part of numerous important public collections in India and abroad, including NGMA, LKA, AIR INDIA, Glenberra, Japan and several private collectoions all over the world.
